Saint Martin / Sint Maarteen WEST INDIES ADVENTURE 2007

This is the our place for our vacations during 10 days. In next July a group formed by Marq, CT1BWW and his wife Nela, Juan Carlos Barceló EA3GHZ with his wife Imma, Tomás Orts EA5YH with his wife Jean and finally Oscar EA8RA and his wife Nina . Our principal purpose is Tourism, with other activities including Amateur Radio, Sightseeing , swimming at pool and Beach with snorkeling, visiting different places around the island and off course with shopping that ST.Martin has statutary Fee-Shopping place : As we want to share with you this West Indies Adventure we decide to publish all story on the Web-Page .

DXCC Desk Announces New Entity. ST.BARTHELEMY FJ

The ARRL DXCC Desk is pleased to announce the addition of St Barthelemy (FJ) to the DXCC List, making the island entity number 338 with an effective date of 14 December, 2007. Cards with contacts dated December 14, 2007 or after will be accepted for DXCC credit. New card submissions for St Barthelemy will not be accepted until January 1, 2008 in order to allow time for administrative adjustments.

French St Martin (FS), while also added to the List of Dependencies and Areas of Special Sovereignty, will remain on the DXCC List, but it is now considered a Point 1 Political Entity under the same classification as that of St Barthelemy.

The Arawaks were first to live on the island and named it ´Svalugia ´ or ´The land of salt ´. Since those times, the name changed, and the island changed hands often times: in their battle over the West Indies, French, English, Dutch, Danish, Spanish and Portugueses ´Conquistadores ´ spent more or less time governing and fighting over St Martin. The name of the island is said to be given by Christopher Columbus when he spotted the land on November 11, the feast of St. Martin of Tours, who lived from 330 to 397 as a bishop and missionary in France. He was, and still is, one of the most popular Saints in Western Europe up to today. However, it has never been proven that it was Columbus to name the island. Other sources say that is was for an European settler by the name of St. Martin, who lived there in the late 16th century. Today, the island is called ´Sint Maarten ´ in Dutch spelling, and ´St Martin ´ in French, Spanish, Italian, and English spelling.

Before Columbus arrived at St.Martin in XV Century , perhaps it was on 11 November 1493 during his second voyage finnally he sighted and anchorage to St.Martin the origin of the name come from Saint Martin of Tours. In his honor, Columbus named the island San Martinho. It is now more commonly known as Saint-Martin (French), Sint Maarten (Dutch), and Saint Martin (English), and collectively Saint Maarten.

Now as you can see on the map, lot of different DXCC Entities around all together very near on a small area in Caribean , with a little luck maybe you can work and confirm on any CQ DX Contest or CQ WPX Contest even on IOTA. Sometimes we ´;re not giving to much importance for some operations but after a while we are a bit surprise wen finally have look at the map we finanly found that some different Prefixes are really importante example FS and FJ o PJ2 and PJ7.

New DXCiting Adventure

This is non Profit organization, we are Hams working FREE for Hams, in fact this group as the purpose maintain the True ´Friendship and Courtesy ´ between really good friends with same objectives and ideas . Planning and working together for the same project it ´;s more easier to get the final .. became the Dream on reality !

The Island

Situated at North of the island is the French part has a land area about of 53.20 km² (20.5 sq mi). At the October 2004 supplementary French census, the population in the French part of the island was 33,102 habitants .

Saint Martin (French Part) belong to French West Indies

Forming the south parte of the isçland is Sint Maarten, the Dutch part of the island constitute part of Netherlands Antilles, with a land area about 34 km² (13.1 sq mi). At the 2004 Netherlands Antilles census, the population in Sint Maarten was around 33 thousands habitants.

As planning a restructuring of the Netherlands Antilles would see Sint Maarten become an independent component of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in its own right, possibly as early as June, 2007.

Nowadays both parts of the island are with common objectiv the TOURISM. After the spanish leave the island, France and the Netherlands agreed to divide the island by a treat on March, 23, 1648. To divide the island in two sections, the inhabitants had to choose two walkers, one chosen by the French-dominated community at North part of the island and the other one, named Menno Versteeg, by the Dutch-dominated community at South of the island.. According to tradition, the French walker drank wine beforehand, while the Dutch walker drank beer. Some people of the French section claim that the restorative effects of the wine are the cause of their representative ´;s longer walk, while some in the Dutch section accuse the French walker of having run.

Sint Maarten is officially an ´island territory ´ part of the Netherlans Antilles, which belong as part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, though not in European Union. It ´;s currency is the Antillean GUILDER .

Saint-Martin is a French commune forming part of Guadeloupe , which is an overseas rgion and overseas dpartement of France and is therefore in the European Union . The official currency in Saint-Martin is the euro (though the U.S. dollar is also widely accepted). In 2003 the population of the French part voted in favour of secession from Guadeloupe to form a separate overseas collectivity of France; this has yet to be implemented.

The French commune of Saint-Martin is governed by a mayor and a municipal council elected by the European citizens living on the French side of the island. As is the case in metropolitan France since the promulgation of the Maastricht Treaty , nationals of any member state of the European Union are allowed to vote at the municipal elections. Nationals from countries not part of the European Union, which represent a large part of the population on the French side of the island, are not allowed to vote in the elections.

The Dutch island territory of Sint Maarten is ruled by an island council, an executive council, and a governor appointed by the Dutch Crown.

Sint Maarten, the Dutch side, is known for its festive nightlife, fun beaches , and plentiful casinos , while Saint-Martin, the French side, is known more for its world-famous nude beaches , jewelry and clothes shopping , exotic drinks made with native rum -based guavaberry liquors , and rich French Caribbean cuisine.

The island is served by many major airlines that bring in large jets, including Boeing 747s and Airbus A340s , carrying tourists from across the world on a daily basis. This fuels the island ´;s largest revenue source, tourism. Princess Juliana International Airport -- which opened a major new terminal in November, 2006 -- is famous for its short landing strip —only 2,130 metres/7,000 ft, which is barely enough for heavy jets. Because of this, the planes approach the island flying extremely low, right over the beach. Countless photos of large jets flying at 10–20 m/30-60 ft over relaxing tourists at the beach have been dismissed as photoshopped many times, but are nevertheless real
